James Tuckfield-Davis has recently joined the ServiceMaster Clean Devon team as our Operations Manager.

We asked him a few questions to help you get to know our new man at the helm.

What motivated you to join ServiceMaster Clean Devon?

“I was attracted to ServiceMaster Clean because I wanted to be part of a company that values professionalism and takes pride in maintaining high standards. I was also eager to take on new challenges and develop my expertise in the industry.”

What were you doing before you joined ServiceMaster Clean Devon?

“I was the Operations Manager for a solar panel installation company. My background before this was in the hotel and leisure industry. All my roles have given me a lot of experience to bring into this position with Service Master Clean Devon.”

What do you like most about your job?

“I enjoy the variety of tasks and the opportunity to work with a great team. Every day brings something new, which keeps things interesting, and I enjoy knowing that my work makes a positive difference for our clients.”

Describe a typical workday.

“I arrive at the office at 07:30 to meet the team. We have a quick catch-up on the day before and make sure everything is ready for the day ahead. I then schedule the jobs in the diary for the following day, checking in with other colleagues to ensure they have everything they need.”

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

“I love spending time with my family. I’m a huge sports fan, mainly golf and football.”

What’s an interesting fact about yourself?

“I am a Bristol City fan. I know someone has to be right?!”

What motivated you to join ServiceMaster Clean Devon?

“I was attracted to ServiceMaster Clean Devon because the business has a family-run feel yet has the benefits and support of a much bigger organisation. The Business Manager position offers the opportunity to add value to the business, and the variety of the role really appealed. So far, no two days have been the same, which I’m loving!”

What do you like most about your job?

“I love the variety. I particularly enjoy meeting clients and suppliers and working closely with the team to deliver the best possible service.”

Describe a typical workday

“I arrive at work at 7:30 a.m. to greet the team, review the previous day’s work, and confirm plans for the day ahead. A typical workday involves speaking to clients, quoting for work, scheduling activities, and spending time with colleagues. As someone who is brand new to the business, I’ve been made to feel incredibly welcome—the support has been second to none!”

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

“I love sports, music and spending time with friends and family. Having recently moved to Devon, I’m enjoying exploring the area and neighbouring counties – it’s a beautiful part of the world!”

What’s an interesting fact about yourself?

I’m learning to play the guitar. Disclaimer: I have a very long way to go!

How long have you been with ServiceMaster Clean Devon?

“I joined ServiceMaster Clean Devon 11 years ago.”

What do you like most about your job?

“I like the mixture of work and the varied places we get to go to each week.”

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

“I love walking my dog and spending time with my children in my free time. I also enjoy Motocross.”

What’s an interesting fact about yourself?

“I can do the splits!”

Describe a recent workday:

“I arrive at work at 7.30 am to load the van with the equipment needed for the day and fill our water bowsers.”

“Today’s job is external cleaning for a local housing authority, so we need plenty of water onboard!”

“With the van loaded, we set off for the day’s work – preparing external walls of residential buildings ready for repainting by the decorating team.”

“On-site, we do a quick walk around to check for hazards and then begin cleaning. With our specialist equipment, we high-pressure jet wash the walls, cleaning off the dirt and algae.”

“When all the walls are cleaned, we clear any debris to ensure we leave the site clean and tidy. Our final job is to take photos of the finished work, and then it’s time to pack up the van and head back to the warehouse. Back at the warehouse, I unload the van [and] check the job sheet for tomorrow.”

What’s the best career advice you’ve been given?

“Don’t focus on others. Focus on your own success to drive your determination.”

What do you wish more people knew about being a woman in business?

“You can’t let your history or past determine your future. Make yourself stand out. Gender or age does not impact your drive to reach your goal anymore.”

What’s an accomplishment or win that makes you especially proud?

“Becoming a ServiceMaster Clean brand manager, joining the senior management team and earning the respect of my colleagues.”

What has been a big goal in your career?
