Sisal carpets are becoming an increasingly popular option for homeowners in the UK. They’re hard-wearing, durable and natural, making them a favourite of those with a busy home but still want to live sustainably.
However, it can be a tough customer when it comes to cleaning without the right know-how.
That’s why, in this blog post, Jennie Holmes from ServiceMaster Clean Leicester is sharing her expert tips on cleaning sisal carpets (and rugs).
How to clean sisal
Vacuum the area first with a vacuum without a beater bar (as this can damage the fibres on the carpet/rug)
Remember, sisal is a very absorbent fibre, so never use water to clean it!
If you buy an off-the-shelf cleaner, always read the instructions carefully and try some in an inconspicuous area first.
Using a specialist dry compound cleaner, sprinkle this across your carpet or rug and slightly agitate it into the fibre. Leave the compound on until it has dried, which is usually 15-30 minutes, then simply vacuum off the compound.
For stain spillages
Although there are many benefits to having a sisal carpet, such as their hard-wearing, natural, anti-static and visually appealing nature, it can be incredibly hard to clean and remove stains. It’s not for the faint-hearted!
Ensure you blot them up as soon as you see them using a lint-free cloth (like a tea towel).
