The fabric of your upholstery is the perfect place for dirt and grime to build up, and your sofa can begin to look old and tired. Our cleaning experts share their advice to make it fresher and to give it a new lease of life.
Your vaccum cleaner isn’t just for your floors! As your sofa and chairs are probably used on a daily basis, just like your carpets, they should be vacuumed regularly to remove any dust and loose dirt that has accumulated on the fabric.
Remove any cushions and use a nozzle attachment to vacuum those hard-to-reach areas of your upholstery and cushions.
*Beat the upholstery gently whilst you vacuum to loosen the dust
Plumping up your cushions will help them to last longer as most fillings lose their ability to bounce back if not plumped to reshape.
Seat cushions may also experience premature wear, so ensure the lifespan of your cushions by rotating them regularly.
Open your windows to allow fresh air to circulate around the room and to air out your upholstery. This will eliminate the need for chemicals, such as air freshener, ideal for anyone with allergies.
Avoid placing your furniture in an area of your room that is in direct sunlight as the colour of your upholstery will fade over time.
Try not to place your sofa near to a radiator if you can help it, especially if it’s made of leather. The heat could damage the material and leave marks. It could also cause a lather sofa to dry out, causing cracks.
If you have to, make sure that it is at least 8 inches away, which will not only help protect the furniture, but will also help the heat to circulate your room effectively.
Apply a stain resistant treatment to your upholstery to protect against any accidental spillages. We use a special fabric protector that gives fantastic resistance to spills, so it’s easier to mop up any spills if cleaned away quickly. Our fabric protector also contains a unique antibacterial additive that kills many viruses and bacteria. Find out more about our upholstery cleaning services here.
* Be sure to follow the manufacturers instructions when applying any kind of liquid to your sofa as it could cause damage. If in doubt, contact a professional.
Once you have your upholstery back to its former glory, ongoing care and attention will help to maintain an immaculate appearance.
