Holiday Tips & Tricks for those pesky stains!

Festive stain removal tips from ServiceMaster Clean.

Hosting holiday mingles can be stressful, but dealing with unwanted pesky stains can make your head spin.

Before you put hours of work into getting rid of stains, ensure you have the right tools and products.

At ServiceMaster Clean, we’ve been experts in carpet and upholstery cleaning for over 60 years, with the professional tools and expertise to remove any stains that should threaten your carpets this festive season.

With our handy tips, you’ll be able to get out lingering and in-the-moment stains.

Spot Hero

These tools include our patented ServiceMaster Clean Spot Hero, which distils all of our cleaning know-how into one handy bottle full of the power to eradicate most tough stains from carpet and upholstery. Including…

Red wine

With wine, especially red, it’s vital to blot it immediately with a white microfibre cloth until all the liquid has been absorbed to stop it from spreading.

Blotting is essential instead of wiping, as wiping may spread the stain further.

Once the liquid is absorbed, spray Spot Hero on a cloth to remove the remaining stain.

Hot chocolate and eggnog

These delicious holiday beverages can leave behind some ugly stains.

If the stain persists, use Spot Hero or mix white vinegar (one cup) and warm water (two cups) and gently work through the stain, then rinse again with warm water and blot the remaining moisture with a dry microfibre cloth.

Butter and grease

The grease in butter can set in quickly, making it a tricky but not impossible stain.

Start by removing the excess butter from the area, then dip a corner of a dry microfibre cloth into the water and coat liberally with salt, then hold it against the stain – don’t rub.

Hold it for about a minute, and then dust away the salt with another damp part of the cloth.

Or, if you want to avoid the chemistry lesson, use Spot Hero!

Cake icing

While decorating cakes and cookies is a fun family activity, icing is one stain you don’t want to mess with.

Go after these stains as soon as possible, scraping the excess off with a knife or spoon so it doesn’t dry.

Then, use Spot Hero to remove the stain.

Professional Repairs

Some stains are too stubborn to be removed without professional equipment.

Nothing says the holidays like candles everywhere, but no one wants to spill wax on a vintage tablecloth.

Should food colouring spill onto your carpet, you will require professional help from experts like your local ServiceMaster Clean technicians.

Our experts can use the latest tools to remove stains or, if they are set firmly into the carpet, will deploy services like a bonded insert to get your carpets looking fresh and clean in time for the new year!
